Yes, you can build your own website and blog. The question that comes up often is whether you should do it all by yourself or pay someone else to do part or all of it for you.
The answer depends on you, your situation, and what you want.
If you are extremely busy and have a decent budget then you may be better off hiring someone to build it and maintain it. For that matter, you can also hire others to help produce content for you too, if you are interested in that.
The catch is that this costs more money. The benefit is it takes little of your personal time to do it this way.
On the other hand, if you are in the same boat as most other people are – then you have more time than you do money available. In such a case you may want to build your own site and maintain it yourself. That may seem scary and intimidating to you at first if you have no experience doing such things – but it really isn’t all that difficult.
You just have a few new things to learn first, but thanks to technology – it is now very simple and relatively easy to do, especially compared to what was needed even just a few years ago.
Choose Your Platform
You have many choices to choose from. In most cases, I think WordPress is going to be your best bet. WordPress has thousands of themes and all kinds of tools and information available to you – and that means you can find something that is going to work very well for you no matter what niche you are in.
It also means there is a ton of information and support for you all along the way as you need and want it.
I love WordPress and most of my sites are built and maintained using WordPress, so we will cover WordPress first;
WordPress
WordPress is used by more than 60 million sites – and counting and currently is used by more than one-third of all sites on the internet. That makes it massive and it means it has a ton of tools, resources, and support. It also means you have many options and you will never outgrow it.
One thing to keep in mind too – there are TWO versions of WordPress – and I don’t know about you, but when I first started looking into launching my first site I found that a little confusing initially.
The version I use and the one I suggest you use is the one that gives you the most CONTROL over your own site. That means you will choose wordpress.org and NOT the .com one (I will cover that one next so you know what it is and can also consider it if you like – just remember – maximum control lives at .org! That is what we are talking about here.
The basic steps you will need to complete to build a WordPress site are;
- Purchase your domain name
- Choose a hosting platform
- Choose a theme and download WordPress
- Point your domain to your site
- Build your site/blog and start creating content
- Maintain your site – there will be updates you need to install
- Keep creating content
- Monetize your site
- Build your email list
- Keep building your audience by providing value

WordPress Free Sites
WordPress also has its own free hosted version too – in some ways similar to SiteRubix – but not similar in other was. One way that is similar is that it is a complete system and provides hosting, it is quick and easy to use and get your site up and running quickly.
One way that is different is that it will also have ads running on it.
Personally I would not recommend this for any kind of business – however, if you are just wanting to play around and get some experience writing and producing content it might be a way to go for that for a while. Even then – if you decide to pursue it more seriously then you may want to strongly consider getting your own site on your own domain that you control as I mentioned above.
In the end, you have to decide for yourself.
